"The land mass mapped by Thompson amounted to 3.9 million square kilometres of wilderness (one-fifth of the continent)."
Спасибо большое!
Всегда пожалуйста. Вот кстати только что столкнулся с а упоминанием Льюиса и Кларка в неожиданном контексте: "When Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were on their "corps of discovery" (guided by Canadian voyagers into country where most of creeks, rivers and landmarks already bore French names) thy passed the mouth of the Yellowstone River on April 29, 1805. Here, Clark went ashore to do a little scouting. But instead of the buffalo, elk and pronghorns he had been encountering, the expedition co-leader hardly got going before, "we saw female and her fawn of the bighorn animal on the top of a bluff", he wrote in his journal. Clark tried for a shot but wasn't quite prepared for what happened next. "Those animals ran and skipped about with great ease on this declivity", he continued. "And appeared to prefer it to the level bottom or plain" (Welcome to bighorn hunting, Captain)" 😀
